Sylvanian Page Update!

6 Apr

SF Cleaning TipsI am reposting the Care tips from PH Sylvanian Families in this blog to make it easier to find. Mobile Facebook, unfortunately, does not make accessing notes easy for fans of the page. I’ve added a new section in my Sylvanian pages called ” Sylvanian Play Tips: Collecting, Organizing, and Taking Care of Your Sylvanian Families Toys.”  You can either click this link to go there or click the tab and scroll to the subpage.

If you have any more suggestions and helpful tips, please feel free to comment so I may add to the lists.

Happy Sylvanian collecting!

The PH❤SF Love Photo Contest 2015

21 Mar

Thank you 03 copyThe final entries came last night in a flurry of last-minute submissions. There were more entries in the past two days than in the first three weeks of the contest and I was floored with all the e-mail and private messages I got one after the other.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this year, despite the absence of international submissions, we had 70 local entries- a record number!

While the judges set about to studying each picture in detail, I’d like to invite you all to please check out the submissions of our local contestants. You can find them at the PH❤SF page in this album: The PH❤SF Love Photo Contest 2015.

My thanks to all those who Liked the page, who made time to set up their detailed dioramas, painstakingly took photos, and submitted their entries, and who stayed tune to all the developments in the page. I am also deeply grateful to Ban Kee Toys, the official distributor of Sylvanian Families in the Philippines, and to Mr. Joseph de Leon, Brands Department Manager, for the support they have shown me and the PH❤SF community.

And with yesterday being Sylvanian Families’ 30th birthday, I must say these entries were all wonderful ways to celebrate this important milestone! Salamat muli!

Winners All

23 Mar

winners circle coverAfter a weekend of deliberations (judging went on Saturday at the Ban Kee office and the rest of the weekend was spent doing the Math, heehee), the winners of this year’s PH♥SF Photo Contest have been announced over at our PH♥SF Facebook page.

This year’s contest was fun (and crazy at the same time) because it dealt with the theme of movies! I was impressed at the level of dedication member-collectors showed in coming up with their submitted entries. Some made me smile, others made me oohhh and ahhh, and still there were a few that made my eyes cloud with tears. All of them, in my opinion, were winners.

If you’d like to see the whole album of pictures, head on over and click these links:

When it came to the winners, we had a hard time deciding which were the cream of the crop because honestly, they were all good! In the end, we whittled down the list to four- three local entries and one international entry. I had a few personal favorites and while some of them didn’t win (we were three judges so I only got 1/3 of the vote), I was glad for those that did.

Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s contest!

The third prize went to “The Lion and the Lamb,” by Ms. Stephanie Sumbe. This was inspired by Edward and Bella’s wedding scene in “Twilight: Breaking Dawn.” I’m not a big fan of the movie (or of the books) so I’ll take this anytime over Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Honestly, this is loads better!

3rd Prize framed

Second prize honors went to “The Blind Side,” by Ms. Christine Santelices, inspired by the movie of the same name. It’s a very sincere photograph that elicited a lot of warm smiles from the judges. During deliberations, one of the things they noticed about it was how heartwarming it really was.

2nd Prize framed

And the first place honors went to “Come What May” by Ms. Aileen Gayman, inspired by the elephant scene in “Moulin Rouge. Ms. Ails’ take on magical realism is breath taking, to say the least.

1st Prize framed

This year’s special prize for international entries went to Ms. Santie Meyer’s meticulous recreation of the iconic spaghetti love scene from “Lady and the Tramp.” This one has really got me lost for words. It is just… beautiful.

There were so many wonderful pictures to choose from, each with their own take and perspective on memorable scenes or quotes from their favorite movies. I only wish I had enough prizes to give to everyone because there were so many other good ones too.

Do check out the albums of this year’s entries! I am sure they will inspire you to do something equally creative with your collections, Sylvanian or otherwise. Happy weekend, friends!

Happy New 2013!

I’m three days late for the New Year but as they say, it’s the thought that counts!

Updates: SF Collecting

17 Jan

I’ve been caught up in Facebook again, this time, on the PH Sylvanian Families page. Not only does it require work to maintain, but it just eats up so much of my time as I look at other people’s Sylvanian Families pictures, comment on them, and vicariously “play” with them. And while I try not to obsess with numbers, the fact that the page counter ( or number of Likes) goes up one or two every few days makes me a happy admin. The more people, the more playmates! For a three-month old page with no advertisements at all, we’re not doing so bad, if I may say so myself. 🙂

One other thing that keeps me busy these days is the photo-documentation of my Sylvanian Families collection. My blog is hopelessly out of date as far as figures and pictures are concerned, and one of the resolutions I had at the start of this year would be to organize and document my collection. It’s a process that’s not only tedious but time-consuming as well, but at least I’ve started. I’m nowhere near the halfway mark with figures and I haven’t even started out on buildings! I doubt if I will ever be able to update accessories and playsets as I’ve opened many of them, without thought of taking pictures before I played with them (head + desk). I’ve since learned my lessons, but the fact remains that I will never be able to fully document many of those I’ve already played with.

Which means, in real life terms… less talk and more action! Got to go back and resume photographing those critters, friends! I hope to be able to update the Sylvanian pages soon. Thanks for always sticking around, even when there’s nothing much going on. 🙂
