About Kittymama

Updated: from Kittymama, All Grown Up, posted May 22, 2014

I started blogging in 2007 after a particularly rough period in our lives. In the beginning, not knowing what I really wanted to write about, I wrote about the one thing I knew best: Hello Kitty. Looking back, I realize how shallow and superficial it may have seemed then, never mind that it developed a fascinating following on its own. Then again, I have no regrets. This blog saved my sanity many, many times in the past years and opened my world to people I would not have met in my ordinary life. pinky curler

In the last year and a half, I neglected this blog as I went on a new direction. In the course of that that venture, I was tempted to leave this corner of the Net altogether. I could not decide if I wanted to continue or shut down this blog. Even as I felt I was being pulled in too many directions, I was hesitant to pull the plug on this one. Now I know why.

I’ve decided that this blog is worth keeping alive. After all, it has seen me through seven years of bliss and darkness and seven years of the best and the worst in my life. I have rejoiced in it, wept in in, exalted and despaired in it. It contains the many joys and pleasures of my simple life, just as it holds the many tears I have shed over the sorrows I have lived through. In the process- sometimes by choice but more often by circumstance- I have grown and changed with it. And while I do have to acknowledge that age is catching up with me, presbyopia, white hair, creaky knees and all, I am grateful that growing old has given me the gifts of wisdom, gratitude, and friendship. All of these with curlers in my hair. 🙂

So today marks a new day for this blog. A new page, a new chapter. My life story is still unfinished and there are many more blank pages to fill. I am who I have always been- wife, mother, writer, teacher, autism advocate, sister, friend- yet today, I am also so much more. I am the woman who dons Hello Kitty shamelessly like second skin and flaunts Blythes brazenly. I am an avid storyteller of Sylvanian fantasies.  I am a gamer, collector, fangirl, crafter, DIY enthusiast.

All of these are me. And my life is still a roller coaster, albeit one that is steered by the grace and mercy of the Almighty.

I am Kittymama, all grown up.

Okasaneko is ♥Kittymama♥, and it’s easy enough to guess why.

Okaasan is Japanese for Mother, as Neko is Japanese for Cat. Melding these two words came up with an unlikely version of my English moniker Kittymama.

A Tubby Tabby, Three Konekos and a Life with Hello Kitty, Sylvanian Families, and Autism.

Hmmm… that just about sums my life with my husband, my two boys (the three men in my life– my konekos!), my undying fascination for all things Hello Kitty, my newfound passion for Sylvanian Families, and my lifelong advocacy for autism. There are days when I feel like I am balancing too many balls in the air, but hey, who hasn’t felt the same way every now and then? The key to life, I believe, is to treasure the little “happiness-es” we take for granted each day. Then, and only then, can we start to live.

So hop along my life’s journey with me. It’s bound to be a rollercoaster ride! ♥

  1. KittyMama,
Thank you for inviting me to ride on your rollercoaster! After not having been in touch with you for so long, it feels good to be able to re-connect through this medium. I am sure I will enjoy the ride. 🙂

Back when we were young, who’d have ever thought we would be the Moms we are today? And that beyond everything we’ve done in our lives, our children would be our proudest achievements? Now I truly understand what our moms spent hours at the PTA for. (Say hi to your mom to me!)
Thank you for coming by, my friend.

    P.S. Don’t we sound like “superheroes?” 🙂

  22. Hi! My name is Joanne, I am married, I have a Son and I am living in Germany. My English is very bad, so I will only write in German in my blogs or website. I also was a fanatic Hello Kitty fan till I met my Husband. Then we marry in the year of 2013. We have our own apartment since 2012 and have no pink Bedroom anymore. In 2010, my Mama brought Hello Kitty Textil from the Philippines so somebody could sew some courtains for my window in my old apartment.I still like Hello Kitty but through the years of 2012 till now I am not this fanatic anymore, but I still like them. December last year 2015, we was in a toyshop cause I love toyshops. I was never a typical Woman who love to buy clothes or shoes no, I like toys! Toys for children but never mind. So we saw some sylvanians and we like them. The next day I said to my family my wishing list. My Sister bought us our first sylvanian House! Write back! Regards, Joanne

    • Hi, Joanne! I am happy to meet a fellow Hello Kitty and Sylvanian Families enthusiast. It’s always wonderful to hear of stories of new collections and how they came about it. I hope that you share with us your collection too. 🙂 Thank you for dropping by my blog and hope to hear from you again!
